A woman sets off earlier this month in a brand new black Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG valued at $ 161,000. But the thing is, it didn’t cost her a penny.
As reported by Felix Cortez from KSBW, the event took place at a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Monterey, California. The suspect was a woman who went straight to the store and signed a check for $ 40,000 in installment in exchange for the car keys.
According to the news source’s story, the woman contacted the dealership prior to the incident to see if they had the car she wanted. Upon confirmation from the seller, she immediately went to the website and presented the required documents, as well as the check. The salesman, who had no idea that something was wrong, lent the car to the woman who drove it off.
However, when the merchant tried to deposit the check the following day, he found through the bank that this was not a good thing and that he had just landed on the receiving end of an elaborate fraud.
Monterey Police are still investigating the case based on what they told KSBW last Thursday. No word was said about the suspect’s identity as the documents are likely forged, but they have confirmed that the theft was definitely committed by a professional.
However, police said the car was likely loaded in a box and shipped to another country.
