The Mercedes-AMG A45 S currently has the boasting rights as the world’s strongest hot hatch. The car can easily beat the Volkswagen Golf R in a drag race due to its power advantage, but what happens when the two compete in a drift mode battle?
Both the Merc and the VW hatches are equipped with 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engines. However, the high-performance car with the three-pointed star badge is rated for up to 415 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque while its German rival only has 315 hp and 310 lb-ft, so it’s a no-brainer who’s going to win a drag race here .
The main highlights of the two include their drift modes. Compared to the AMG A45 S, which has no limit to the power transmission to the rear wheels, the Golf R can only bring a maximum of 50 percent into this range when the program is activated. Again, the Merc seems to benefit more from such a function.
That makes the powerful A-Class the most popular hot hatch in this drift mode battle. AutoTrader’s new video tests our expectations by putting both on the same track.
