Reports in Germany indicated the possibility that Mercedes-AMG is already thinking about introducing the next version of the Mercedes-Benz SLR within three years and is likely to have hybrid drive, according to a report by worldcarfans.com.
The Daimler performance department is reportedly considering the position of the engine for the next model of the SLR camera. The company is considering whether to have a front engine layout or a mid-engine layout. The coupé variant is expected to be launched on the market first with a roadster. The flagship variant of the Black Series may be launched soon after.
According to the Auto Bild report, if the next SLR camera is a front-engined model, it may have a turbocharged V6 with an electric motor. This combination enables a total output of around 641 hp. This model can also have active aerodynamic elements as well as a new concept for its doors. If the company decides to use this concept for the next Mercedes-Benz SLR, around 3,000 units are expected to be produced annually. The price is expected to be between 250,000 and 300,000 euros per unit.
However, if the next SLR is a mid-engined model, it may have many carbon fiber components and use a turbocharged V8 engine combined with two electric motors. This will give the next SLR a total horsepower of around 1035 hp and potentially compete in the same market as the LaFerrarri, Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1. However, if the luxury vehicle maker opts for this design, production of the next Mercedes-Benz SLR may be limited to around 750 units. The price for this particular design is expected to start at around 1 million euros.
