Valteri Bottas confirmed that Mercedes is not interested in Sebastian Vettel
Ferrari announced last month that four-time world champion Vettel would leave the team at the end of the year and replace the German driver with McLaren’s Carlos Sainz Jr.
This means that Vettel is a free agent in the driver market for the next year, which led to proposals that he could sign from Mercedes to form an all-star cast with six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff said the team last week couldn’t discount A step for Vettel, but the focus was on the current drivers Hamilton and Bottas, who both no longer have a contract at the end of the year.
Bottas now said he had no concerns about Vettel being on the market, claiming Mercedes had told him the Ferrari driver would not be considered for a seat in 2021.
“No, it’s not your business,” said Bottas of the speculation in an interview with Sky Sports F1.
“We were also very honest with my team the whole time about the situation and how it will be contractually agreed.
“I got pretty clear message that no, they’re not considering Seb so I said fine then don’t worry.”
Bottas’ future has been a regular topic throughout his time at Mercedes. Since joining the team for the 2017 season, he has always signed one-year contracts.
The Finn said he felt no different about his future with Mercedes than he had in other years, and some speculation made him laugh.

“For me it’s the same as every year. It’s in no way different from any other season for me, ”said Bottas.
“There are always conversations and the situation was the same for me.
“I think it’s pretty funny when there’s not even a single race. There were people who got my place. It made me laugh a couple of times.
“There’s no pressure from that side because I still have my clear goal for the season in mind, and that’s it.
“Things will then sort themselves in one way or another, whatever happens. I have no stress at all about that. ”
It is widely expected that Mercedes will enter into a new contractual agreement with Hamilton shortly before resolving Bottas’ future.
The team has young riders Esteban Ocon and George Russell in the junior program, both of whom have been questioned as potential replacements for Bottas.
