It’s not every day that you see Magnus Walker in a Mercedes-Benz, but if he has to drive one, it’s better the immaculate Mercedes-Benz 300 SL gullwing. Walker, a Porsche expert and enthusiast, drove the 300 SL gullwing together with his girlfriend Hannah Elliot at this year’s Silvretta Classic Rally.
Walker, also known as the Urban Outlaw, usually drove his Porsche 911 in the rally. Not this year. He took the Daimler bike himself and drove the gullwing 300 SL over the most beautiful alpine roads in Austria, which he was visiting for the first time. In addition to Austrian roads, Walker also took the gullwing for a whirlwind in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
The ride was conducted during Walker’s 51st Birthday, which makes his participation in the event particularly meaningful.
The gullwing Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is possibly the most iconic vehicle that has ever come out of the German automaker’s plant. It was introduced in 1950 and became known for the unique double wing door with roof hinge and rich racing history. It is the vehicle that has it all – beautiful proportions, brilliant technology for the racetrack and a performance like no other in its time. All of this made the gullwing one of the most sought-after vehicles of all time.
This has made the gullwing a coveted vehicle, which was auctioned off at Sotheby’s exclusive auction house for up to 6.5 million US dollars. With just a handful of these units, the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center is concentrating on breathing life into these vehicles.
