The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a heavy vehicle, but a very agile machine. Not only can it conquer rough terrain, but it can also climb steep areas. Recently, Mercedes released a video that once again demonstrates the ability of its iconic sport utility vehicle to perform unbelievably.
The new promotional video from Mercedes for the G-Class is entitled “Mercedes-Benz G-Class (2019): Conquering the Punta Negra Dam” and falls under the brand’s “Stronger than Gravity” campaign for the 40th anniversary of the Product. The clip shows the automatic scaling of the steep walls of the Punta Negra dam in the Argentine Andes. From there we can see that the slope of the wall is about 45 degrees, but the SUV didn’t seem to have any problem maintaining traction as it drove horizontally across the surface.
To prove that the G-Class video was a real stunt and not a computer simulation or just a visual trick, Mercedes will post some additional clips on YouTube on March 8th describing the background of the video. There’s a behind-the-scenes look at how the stunt was done. In addition, there are four short videos on the Instagram stories of the brands “Arrival”, “Construction”, “Stunt” and “Interviews” that show the different phases of the stunt.
According to Daimler The aim of the “Stronger than gravity” campaign is to “raise the profile of the G-Class among the most important target groups (of customers and fans): powerful, self-confident and superior”. Customers and fans alike are transported to the extreme environments, which shows why the vehicle has been fascinating to people since 1979.
