The new Mercedes-Benz CLS was recently discovered during a test at the Nürburgring. The car remained in its heavy zebra camouflage in the new spy video. The interesting thing, however, was that it was next to the BMW M140i.
Take a look at the driving test video of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS here and see what happens after a minute:
The CLS is characterized by its elegant design. It was described as a “four-door coupe”. The car is one step higher than the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. After all, it wants to close the gap between the E-Class and its brand’s flagship S-Class.
The upcoming CLS is expected to inherit the same powertrains that are available in the S-Class. This means that the entry-level models get inline four units, while the higher equipment levels get the inline six engines.
If the Mercedes-AMG GT sedan The concept was revealed, rumors surfaced about the three-pointed star brand that dropped the CLS range. Current developments show the company is keeping the CLS, but reports say there will be no more Mercedes-AMG CLS 63 version. Instead, an AMG CLS 53 with a hybrid setup will be introduced.
According to sources, the AMG CLS 53 is powered by an in-line six-cylinder engine in combination with an electric motor. The hybrid’s output will likely be more or less 500 hp.
However, the subject in the spy video appears to be a standard version of the new CLS. That probably explains why the BMW made a quick job of it.
The new CLS will celebrate its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The car has many of the design elements of the E-Class. However, it has been tweaked to add a sharper bezel, a new lighting system, a coupe-like slope in the back of the roof, and more elegant features. The previously published renders of the car serve as the Preview of the upcoming CLS.
