The Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) will finally start in two days. One of the most anticipated vehicles at the event is this Mercedes-AMG Project One. To further increase the hype for the upcoming hypercar, another one Teaser photo of which was officially published, which can be seen above.
According to Daimler, Project One underlines the 50th anniversary of AMG. The hypercar has a hybrid powertrain that is derived from Mercedes’ current Formula 1 technology.
Details of Project One are still closely monitored by the German automaker. However, they confirmed that there will be a gasoline engine combined with electric motors on the front axle for optimal performance and efficiency.
Based on advice, insiders, and reliable publications, the Project One’s gasoline engine will likely be a 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine. Including the electric motors, the total output of the hypercar will be at least 1,000 hp.
The V6 will likely produce up to 750 horsepower. The remaining 250 hp, however, are supplied by the electric motors.
Electric motors are also installed on the back of the car. One increases the power of the turbocharger and the other focuses on the crankshaft.
Auto Express claimed that the engine should be similar to Lewis Hamilton’s W08 Silver Arrows. As opposed to the F1 car’s redline at 14,000rpm, the Project One may only be 11,000rpm. The report says the lower number is meant to ensure the hypercar has better reliability and more distance before it does needs to be serviced. The article also suggested that one of the vehicle’s breakthroughs will be its 40 percent thermal efficiency.
With electricity alone, Project One could travel up to 15 miles. The electrical energy of the hypercar is stored in lithium-ion batteries.
