Which wins when you get the box Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupé against the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV in a drag race? The boys from Motor1 Turkey recently took both high-performance cars onto the racetrack to find out the answer to that question.
The cars shown in the video include a gray AMG C63 S Coupe and a sky-blue Giulia QV. The cars were equipped with Pirelli P Zero tires, but the Mercedes had wider tires and was 0.4 inches taller than the Alfa Romeo. On the other hand, the Giulia QV benefits from carbon-ceramic brakes, which are lightweight and offer better performance when braking.
Under the hood of the AMG C63 S Coupe is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with an output of 503 hp and a torque of 516 lb-ft. The Giulia QV is now equipped with a 2.9-liter dual-turbo V6 engine that develops 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.
The numbers allow the Merc to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. Thanks to its configuration, the Alfa can do the same feat in just 3.6 seconds.
Both cars were put to the test on a series of 400-meter runs to see how they would hold up against each other. In the first race, the Mercedes emerged victorious because its start control played an important role at the start. Due to a dispute about whether the C-Class driver started early or just the start control did its job, the race was restarted where the Giulia QV triumphed. The tie-breaker phase, however, went to the Benz.
The boys drove a 1000 meter race, which the AMG C63S Coupé won again. However, the rolling start showed that the Giulia QV beat the Merc. The last part of the video was a brake test where the Merc showed its better braking performance and beat the Alfa by 2 meters.
It was definitely a nice race because the two of them just walked back and forth at different stages of the race. However, everyone can agree that both cars are really impressive and fun to see.
