A new spy video shows that AMG is still testing the Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 from 2018. The video shows not one but two high-performance versions of the CLS.
It should be noted that the new The Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 already celebrated its debut in Detroit last January. It was previewed along with the sedan, coupe and convertible versions of the E-Class. The AMG CLS is expected to arrive on the European market in a few weeks and go to the USA in the fall. The spy video tells us that AMG is likely to make some adjustments to the car before orders pile up for it.
Here are the three things we can learn from the new Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 spy video:
1. The Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 is fast
The Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 is incredibly agile. Take a look at how it went along the implacable track of the Nürburgring with ease, taking its mass into account.
With a total weight of 4,200 pounds, the CLS 53 can accelerate from zero to 100 km / h in just 4.5 seconds. This is thanks to the 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine working in tandem with an electric motor that delivers 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The entire power is transferred to a variable 4MATIC + all-wheel drive system.
The top speed of the car is 155 miles per hour. Those who want more can install the optional AMG driver package to increase it to 250 km / h.
2. The engine noise is music to our ears
The hybrid powertrain of the CLS 53 certainly gives our ears an astonishing touch. Just turn up the volume on the video and listen to it. The in-line six-cylinder internal combustion engine and EQ technology certainly complement the car’s quadruple exhaust systems.
3. The Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 remains sexy
Since the new CLS 53 was presented at the beginning of this year, the ones shown in the video are no longer in camouflage. White and gray versions of the vehicle can be seen here. It should be noted that the units shown in the clip do not have rear spoilers, but the production version of the CLS 53 will certainly have them.
The gray painted CLS 53 appears to have a roll cage on the back. However, this is likely only for testing purposes. So don’t look forward to the production model.
