Don’t let its sexy and elegant looks fool you. The Mercedes-AMG SL63 Cabriolet is full of power. At last month’s Petrolhead Spring Events, it showed its skills to its Mercedes counterparts and a supercar.
The first challenger to the SL63 was a Mercedes GLE SUV. As expected, the lighter and more agile SL showed its dominance over the larger vehicle from the start.
Next came a Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupé. Here, too, the SL63 left its Mercedes sibling because of its fast acceleration. However, the high-performance S-Class seemed to be catching up at the end of the line.
The last time in the video was a Liberty Walk Nissan GTR R35. This time we thought the tuned supercar would finally beat the SL63. However, when they received the go-ahead, it was a different story.
While both cars were equal on their first run, the SL63 eventually left the Nissan halfway.
We’re not sure if the SL63’s engine was tuned in any way, but given its decals, it received several visual enhancements from Thijs Timmermans.
Even in the series configuration of the SL63, it remains an impressive opponent on the racetrack. Under the bonnet of the car is an AMG 5.5-liter biturbo V8.
The unit can produce 577 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, which is distributed to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission. The car weighs 4,112 pounds curb. The setup allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just four seconds.
