The Mercedes-Benz W111 is definitely one of the favorites in restomodding. One of the leading companies specializing in such projects is Mechatronics, and here is another of his works.
Externally, the 1970 W111 still has its flawless shine. When you walk in, you see the same leather upholstery on the interior, the floor carpet, the floor mats, the analog displays, the buttons, the switches, the levers, the classic steering wheel and the cassette player that were found in the car as it was in the Bell bottom jeans era hit the market.
It’s like in another time in the W111, until you start your engine and drive off with it. Because the car’s 3.5-liter V8 engine with around 200 hp has been replaced by a modern power unit. Now it carries a 5.4-liter V8 with 360 hp, possibly from an SLK 55 AMG, like the same W111 retromod that the specialist unveiled in 2018.
We’re not sure if the car’s original 5-speed automatic transmission was retained, but the same car from Mechatronik was previously fitted with a 7-speed automatic transmission. It came with an optimized ABS braking system and improved suspension.
The 1970 Mercedes-Benz W111 presented here was produced as an exhibition vehicle. So far it has only run 1,429 miles on its odometer, which is another indication of its new condition. With these things in mind, the price of the car is € 470,000, which makes it more expensive than the new the one Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.
